Getting Settled | Mobile, AL Photographer

We’ve been here a little over 2 weeks now, and it’s just now starting to feel like this is more than a visit. It’s a little tough because we’re in a short-term rental home – which is surprisingly a very nice house, but knowing that it’s short-term (until we are able to close on our new home) makes it hard to own it in my heart even if I’ve finished what unpacking I plan on doing. We love it here though! It’s been great getting acquainted with people and making new friendships. We’ve been greeted with surprisingly crisp (read Colorado-like) fall weather and changing leaves that I am extremely thankful for! The older boys are getting settled into school and we’re finding a new normal….yep…it’s starting to feel like home. I already have a library card…that makes it official, right?? And…wait for it….we bought chicks!! For those who know me, I’m sure this comes as a great shock…I am just about the LAST PERSON ON EARTH who would have farm animals around…but hey, it sounded like a fun project for the kids, and it’s been fun so far! :)

I’ve had fun working with Alabama light…. it’s surprisingly different than Colorado light. I’ve been documenting life as we know it, and can’t wait to get behind my lens for others around here! Thanks to Facebook, I’ve already been getting local session inquiries! Hopefully that means transitioning my business will be easier than I’d expected. :) Here’s to making new friends!

And since this is a photo blog….here’s a bit of the view from here.

The boys on their first day…they were so excited…especially about the fact that they wear uniforms here!

Photobucket

It was Caden’s first day of school ever as we waited to enroll him in Pre-K until we moved…he was much more excited than his Mama.

Photobucket

I’ve really enjoyed the added one-on-one time I’ve gotten with my younger boys though! When you have 4 close together, one-on-one time is a hot commodity! :)

Alabama or Bust! | Mobile, Alabama Photographer

If you follow me on Facebook or know me in real life, then you probably know that our family is moving to Mobile, Alabama. Cary and I are worship pastors and have recently accepted a position at a church called The River in Semmes, Alabama. We are incredibly excited about what our future holds and the way that God is directing our family and our lives as we live them for Him. It’s official, and we are moving this week!

So what does that mean for SugarBowl Photography? Well, it means that Alabama has a new photographer in town!! I will be relocating our business right along with our family and cannot wait to meet new clients and friends down south! I will be available for business in just a few weeks, so if you are in the Alabama area, check out the rest of our website and give us a call or email. If you know someone in the Alabama area, spread the word for us! And for all of my Colorado friends, don’t worry, with lots of family in Colorado, I plan on visiting as often as I can and when I do I plan to make time for photo sessions. If you are interested in hiring us for your wedding or photo session, shoot me an email and let me know, and I’ll see what I can do.

Truly, I know that as God has directed our lives thus far and He has great things for our future in Alabama. I can’t wait to see what that means not just for our family, but for SugarBowl Photography. Looking forward to meeting all of you!! Alabama or bust!!

Expecting Judah | Colorado Photographer

My sister and her husband are expecting their first sweet baby, Judah, very soon, and to remember this time of just two we did a session together. I love maternity sessions. I love the expectation. I love helping families remember the last few days or weeks, before they are one more. Kelsey and Scott were so much fun to work with, letting me try different things and trying my best to take images to create images that focus on them. As they are right now.

Kels & Scotty, you guys are going to make the best parents…I already know you’ll be able to teach me a thing or two! I’m so excited for you and the journey your are beginning, and I’m so thankful for the sweet little nephew you are giving me! I can’t wait to love on him! Judah, you did good my little buddy! You held off until we were able to get these pictures of your sweet Mom and Dad, but listen to your favorite Auntie…you can come now! We are so excited to meet you!!

Slow Down, Little Man | Colorado Photographer

Well, it’s happened. My baby boy is 1. With all of my boys, it felt like their first birthdays arrived way to fast, but with this little one, I feel like I blinked. And here we are. My Caleb, I am so abundantly blessed in you. You are an absolute joy with your easy going way and funny faces. You are independent and cuddly and so completely enamored with your older brothers. I am so very thankful for you my boy, but for your mama, just stay little would you?

I have a one-year session right around the corner, but for now, a walk down memory lane up until now…

Ricky & Natalie | Colorado Wedding Photographer

I know very few things that I consider more of an honor than standing alongside someone as they declare their vows and promise to love the one their with. Last week, I had the honor of doing just that for my sister Natalie as she promised forever to her fiancé Ricky. Her wedding was photographed by one of my brides, and a friend of Natalie’s and I, Beth. You can find her work on Facebook under Beauty In The Ordinary and I know she’ll be sharing images from the wedding once she gets settled from her honeymoon. (Hope you’re having SO MUCH FUN, Beth and Mark!!! :)

Since I couldn’t be Natalie’s Matron of Honor and photograph her wedding, I was super honored when Natalie & Ricky asked if I would capture their first look before their wedding.  I know I’ve talked about my reasons for loving when couples opt for a First Look before, but it was so, so perfect for Natalie & Ricky. Natalie was feeling a little anxious while getting ready, and when she and Ricky first saw one another, all of that completely melted away and allowed them both to really enjoy their day together. And Ricky’s tears were definitely still streaming when my sister started her way down the aisle. It was so nice for them to get a chance to have pictures and a private moment just for them (with Beth and I and the videographer at a bit of a distance catching their interaction with our cameras). I know Natalie and Ricky will cherish the pictures from this moment forever, and I am so honored to have been able to capture them.

Natalie & Ricky, I love you both and hope you are safely on your way to San Francisco! I hope you love your sneak peek!! :)

Their wedding was held at Della Terra Chateau in Estes Park, CO. They have a lovely outside amphitheater where the wedding was planned to be held and the Chateau has a gorgeous open room for receptions and indoor weddings. Rain rolled in during the day and was much more than a threat, so the wedding was moved inside, thanks to the terrific staff at Della Terra. It was perfect and gorgeous, and thankfully, all was not lost for pictures because the reception area has beautiful large windows. YAY for available light!! :)

Mark & Beth | Colorado Wedding Photographer

I adore Beth. We’ve been friends since junior high, and even though years and miles have come between us, when we reconnect, it’s as if no time had passed at all. She is genuine, has the best smile and she’s the kind of girl who tells it like it is and I love her for it! In all the time I’ve known her, I’ve never seen her so comfortable in her own skin as she is with Mark. I love the way he looks at her…it’s as if he can’t wait for their next interaction or the next amazing thing she might have to share with him.

I really liked how Beth & Mark incorporated things they love into their wedding day. There were vintage touches throughout, and there reception was at the Pueblo Weisbrod Aircraft Museum because Mark is a pilot. The World War II planes served as such a cool backdrop for their reception! Beth and Mark, I am so very happy for the two of you!! Congratulations on becoming Mr. & Mrs. and thank you so much for letting me be a part of your awesome day! Love to you both!

Mommy & Me | Castle Rock Photographer

Meet Nicole. She was the lucky, and from what her friends and family said of her, much-deserving, winner of our Mommy & Me contest that we held this past Mother’s Day. I felt so honored to get to bless Nicole with this family session, maybe especially because she is expecting her 3rd baby. I know from experience that often times when it’s not the first baby, belly pictures aren’t quite at the top of the list for belly pictures…life kind of takes over…so it seemed extra special to me to be able to document this moment in time for her and her family.

It was threatening rain when we began their session, but since we’d already had to reschedule due to rain the week before, they decided to see if we could make it work. We used every possible minute before the skies opened up on us, and they definitely rocked it out, drizzle and all. :) Nicole, I hope you love your sneak peek. It was so much fun meeting you and your family, and I hope this was as much a blessing to you as it has been for me!

3 Years | Child Photographer

Happy 3rd Birthday to my quirky, fun-loving, full of laughter, inquisitive, independent, cuddle-bug, beautiful, green-eyed boy.

Right now, you love BALLOONS – in your own words, “they’re WON-derful”, your blanket, cuddling up close, nap time, playing with your brothers…or by yourself, doing anything your brothers can do and trying to one-up them, your Bella, anything that could be considered “dip”, and Mickey Mouse.

Jeff & Carla | Colorado Wedding Photographer

I was so honored when Jeff & Carla asked me to photograph their wedding. They’re the kind of people that you like instantly and feel like you’ve known them forever after just one conversation. And somehow, while making everyone else around them feel treasured and special, they love each other like they are the only two around.

Jeff & Carla, your wedding day was a treasure for me, and even now as I edit your wedding, I’m reminded how special it truly is to have found your someone. I hope you love your sneak peek! Congratulations to you both!!

There was a park across the street from the church with a rose garden which served as an awesome backdrop.

The girls were so good about acting like it was a gorgeous breezy day, but I’m telling you right now, it was BLAZING HOT. Like, really. So I was super thankful for the large covered entrance to the church when we couldn’t stand the heat any longer! :)

Aren’t Carla’s shoes amazing? And she wore them all day too! Bonus points.

The wedding reception wasn’t until later in the evening, so we had plenty of time for fun and pictures with the wedding party.

Carla & Jeff decided they needed some pictures for facebook, and for posterity, what could be better at this very moment than planking?? So they did. So funny. I got in for a quick shot right after the iPhones. :)
